Make a Date With Your Writing

A Very Important Meeting is your daily writer's retreat, an online space to strengthen your focus with mindfulness meditation and prioritize your writing among like-minded creatives. Concentration, productivity, and community: the essential building blocks of a thriving writer’s life, right there on your calendar.

Every Very Important Meeting begins with a 10-minute meditation. It's a time to focus our minds and let all other thoughts go so that we can truly turn our attention to our writing.

After the meditation, we write together in silence for 45 minutes.

You can write in a journal, work on a blog post, or dive into that novel. What you write is entirely up to you.

After the writing is done, we take 15 minutes to connect as writers. What we don't do is read pages or critique. This is strictly social time and while it's (technically) optional, we find it's usually the best part.

Stop trying to find time to write.
Make time.

Co-founders April Dávila and Paulette Perhach met at AWP in 2020, just before the country's first wave of shut downs in response to the COVID-19 epidemic.

It was a weird time, to say the least. As we kept in touch, we realized we were both hosting online mindful writers groups and what was more, we found that these groups had become a real source of stability and joy through the trials of social distancing.

Because, let's be honest here, writers aren't the most socially adept folks to begin with. We're prone to self-isolation and would generally prefer to not leave the house if we can help it.

But we're still human. We need connection.

When we asked our existing students what they most wanted and needed, the answer came back loud and clear: more meetings. And so we've expanded from our humble beginnings.

We're excited to offer Very Important Meetings seven days a week, and we have big dreams of building out our schedule until writers can hop on any time of day, in any time zone, to focus their minds and write with like-minded individuals.
